The Mystery Theater at Machine Project
For our big AWP event this year, we're collaborating with Machine Project on the 5 Day Poetry Marathon. Curators Joshua Beckman and Anthony McCann invited over 25 poets to read one of their books in its entirety in the Mystery Theater at Machine Project in Echo Park, a 10 minute drive from downtown LA. Check out the schedule at Machine Project's website, here. Seating is limited (less than 20 seats per reading), so we recommend buying your ticket soon!
We're also participating in two more events during AWP. Tyehimba Jess and Matthew Rohrer will read with authors from St. Mary's College MFA program and POOL: a journal of poetry in The Last Bookstore on Friday, April 1st from 4-5:30pm. Cedar Sigo will read with authors from FENCE Books and Octopus Books on the rooftop of the Ace Hotel on Friday, April 1st from 5-7pm.
See you soon!
Illocality by Joseph Massey was reviewed by Stephen Burt in The New York Times Book Review this past week. Burt says of Illocality, “Massey’s brightness on brightness could represent a soul on fire, an ugly duckling becoming a swan or the evils of litter. Or it could stand for nothing other than Massey’s attempt to show, in so few words, how 'perception’s / a process,' an exhilarating or appalling event inside his, or anyone’s, head."
The Montana Arts Council said, "He personifies rural values in that he makes his living from working with horses, but oddly - and fortunately for us - he is also one of the preeminent poets of our day. Mr. Craig is an intellectual who has been recognized internationally for his impressive creative talents."
More on his merits and the Poet Laureate of Montana position here.
Wallless Space [Wandloser Raum] by Ernst Meister, translated by Graham Foust and Samuel Frederick, has been longlisted for the National Translation Award in Poetry by the American Literary Translations Association!
Words without Borders said, "The translators of Wallless Space were brave to take on Meister’s dense and unusual poetry, and so far their work has been excellent.…Foust and Frederick have preserved the phonetic elements of Meister’s verse—assonance, alliteration, rhyme, anaphora—without sacrificing the poet’s distilled diction and powerfully short dimeter and trimeter lines."
Wallless Space is Meister's final collection and the last of the informal trilogy which also includes In Time's Rift (Wave Books, 2012) and Of Entirety Say the Sentence (forthcoming Wave Books, October 2015).
